Five Year Strategic Plan, September, 2005
St. Paul School Strategic Plan
History: The concept of developing a five-year strategic plan for St. Paul School began in the fall of 2002 and after one-and-a-half years, it was complete. Parents/guardians were invited to a presentation of the plan and written copies were distributed.
Update as of September, 2005: The Mission, Belief Statement and Values have not changed. The Mission is the Mission of Jesus.
The seven committees met again during the summer of 2005 and updated their sections and compiled responses to a reflection sheet on the accomplishments of their committees during the 2004-2005 school year. The second half of the reflection sheet dealt with the committees' plans for 2005-2006.
Below is a summary of the reflection sheets:
- Curriculum coordinators met to plan synchronized efforts among the varying subject areas.
- An end-of-year survey was created for teachers and parents to provide input into the Math and Science curriculum.
- The job description of curriculum coordinators was re-examined in relation to the actual performance of the coordinators.
- A new Spanish curriculum (an introduction course) was developed and submitted to the Diocese.
- The SQ3R method of reading in the content areas was added to the strategies for learning across the grades.
- The Collins Writing Program was added to the strategies for learning.
- Research reports were discussed for consistency across the grades.
- Problem Solvers Math Journal workbooks targeting nine problem-solving skills were purchased.
- A writing specialist was employed to augment the writing program.
- A reading specialist was employed for grades one to four.
- The duties and tasks performed by the principal, vice-principal and support staff were listed in a job description.
- Two formal observations of teachers were completed and will be completed each year with pre- and post-conferences. "Walk-through" evaluations were also completed.

Spirituality Committee Accomplishments:
- The committee established and maintains an active St. Paul School Spirituality Committee.
- Coordination of the committee with other ministries is established.
- Goals for 05-06 were established.
- Family support plan was established and successfully launched and utilized.
- Assisted in establishing a "Just Faith" day group.
- Encouraged and continue to encourage families to make prayer a part of their lives.
- Assisted in establishing a school-wide theme for the new school year.
- Assisted and continue to assist in Chores for Charity program.
- Explored and supported implementation of partner projects with twin parish in Africa.
- Explored ways to incorporate school themes in children's liturgy and First Friday Mass.

Finance Committee Accomplishments:
- The committee developed a long-term financial plan for St. Paul School by working with the Pastor and the Parish Finanace Committee.
- Developed an accurate and effective school budget for the school year 2005-2006.

Marketing Committee Accomplishments:
- The school newsletter was enhanced and internal communication was expanded.
- News notes on the back of the calendar added to the communication procress.
- Teacher news notes at least three times per year were added to the communication procress.
- More information is placed on the website (www.spsprinceton.org).
- Internal and external communication was augmented through email.
- An interactive email network was set up.
- An ad campaign was established for the year.
- A brochure was created.
- Open house for new enrollees was initiated.

Extracurricular Committee Accomplishments:
- A parent survey to gather information from parents was created and distributed.
- Goals of the Strategic Plan were discussed with new members.
- New members were recruited.
- Action plans were discussed for consistency with other committees and for more appropriate wording.
- New athletic clinics were established to include younger students.
- Requirements for criminal background checks and for Virtus training were completed.

Facilities Committee Accomplishments:
- Recruited members for the Facilities Committee.
- Conducted two maintenance reviews of the school and surrounding groups with Principal, the Parish Facilities Manager, and his assistant.
- Reviewed previous data on prior school inspections.
- Investigated the feasibility of enhancing the playground area.
